Bring the ocean into the classroom with Ocean Academy

On behalf of Ocean Generation and SC Johnson, our sponsoring partner, we are excited to offer the opportunity for schools across the UK to register for Ocean Academy – an exciting education programme that brings the ocean and its importance into the classroom.

Having already reached over 600,000 children in 11 countries, we are now looking to directly engage with 15,000 students aged 5 – 16 years old all throughout the UK. This year’s expanded programme features new educational content from The Blue Paradox – a recent immersive exhibit hosted by SC Johnson on the impact of plastic waste on our oceans.

We are available to visit schools and deliver an interactive assembly-style presentation to inspire ocean protection and drive sustainable behaviour change– at no cost to the school!

Every second breath we take comes from the Ocean. It captures more than 50% of global carbon and is the primary protein source for over 3 billion people.

Trillions of pieces of plastic pollute the Ocean, entering every marine habitat and eventually our own food chain. Climate change threatens some of our planet’s most productive habitats. Human activity at sea causes resource exploitation and noise pollution, jeopardising entire populations of Ocean wildlife. The Ocean is intrinsically connected to all life on earth.

Engaging youth is an incredibly important part of our movement as 41% of all people in the world today are 24 or younger. That's more than 3 billion young people who are going to have to live the rest of their lives with the consequences of today's environmental actions.

Therefore, investing in education is critical first step in ensuring a sustainable future. By positively engaging with students we can educate and inspire collective action and promote tangible behaviour change, all while fostering a sense of agency.

For the next generation to protect the Earth’s most precious ecosystem, it must first understand its importance.

About the programme

The ‘bringing the Ocean into the classroom’ programme is founded on the four key pillars of Ocean Academy, which is our education hub:

  1. Introducing ‘The Ocean’ as a single interconnected water source for the planet supporting all life on earth.

  1. Highlighting the amazing and multifaceted ‘Role of the Ocean,’ from  providing the oxygen we breath and the water we drink, to controlling our climate and weather patterns, irrigating the planet, and regulating global carbon levels.

  1. Exploring 'Our Impact' and the challenges the Ocean faces and how we can make better decisions to protect it. Including practical behaviour change that could be implemented in the student’s school, home or community environment.

  1. Discussing 'Our Future' to inspire young people to champion change.

We would love for you to register on behalf of your school - or a school that you think would love to receive this programme.

We will be sure to send across additional information upon registration.
