Competition - If You Were An Engineer, What Would You Do?

This exciting competition encourages pupils from primary and secondary schools across the UK to look at the world around them and find engineered solutions to common problems.

As part of the competition pupils interview engineering professionals, identify a problem and design a solution to it enabling them to be inspired by engineering professionals and ‘find the engineer they could be’ by designing the future of engineering.

In 2018/2019 over 49,000 pupils took part.

In 2019/2020 over 30,000 pupils took part despite schools closing due to Covid-19.

Here are the key points:

  • Free to enter competition open to pupils between the ages of 3 and 19
  • Supports students to find the solutions to problems they see in the world around them
  • 6 hours of lesson time and some can also be homework activities
  • Opportunity to engage directly with engineers to understand about the work they do each day
  • Every entry is graded and receives a certificate
  • Judging is against peers and the top entries in each region feature in a regional exhibition and awards ceremony
