Hello, I'm Karen. I live in beautiful North Yorkshire and the wonderful historic city of York. I taught for 14 years in two fantastic primary schools, teaching mixed aged classes from EYFS to Year 6 and lead most subjects over my time in school. I'm passionate about enquiry based learning, children questioning and inspiring wonder in the children we teach.
When I am not thinking of new investigations to explore and making a mess in the STEM labs I can be found treading the boards as a founding member of the Joseph Rowntree Theatre Company or heading off into the hills that surround me here in Yorkshire.
I was very fortunate to spend time in New Zealand working in conservation and got to cuddle a kiwi, the bird not the fruit. I also spent some time supporting teachers in rural Kenya through CPD and delivering lessons to classes of around 70 engaged and enthusiastic children, who at times wondered who this crazy lady with the red hair was.
My inspirations are varied, but I think watching Terry Nutkins as a child inspired my passion for animals and the natural world.
