Artificial intelligence (AI) hit teaching, learning and assessment like a speeding bullet in 2023. Moreover, science is rapidly evolving unlike any other time in history, so it is crucial for educators to stay up to date with the latest advancements in technology. Genomics is one of the leading disruptive technologies and its convergence with AI is accelerating.

We are excited to announce our upcoming residential course on genomics and artificial intelligence (AI) for teachers of KS4 and KS5 science and computing. Led by Fran Gale, Head of Science Engagement and Enrichment at Wellcome Connecting Science and myself, this course has been developed with Wellcome Connecting Science and Deepmind, world leaders in these fields. This two-day event is designed to provide educators with a comprehensive understanding of how genomics and AI are transforming the field of science, and how they can incorporate these innovative technologies into their teaching. Held over two days, participants will engage in a variety of interactive workshops, lectures, and hands-on activities that will help them develop practical skills and knowledge in these exciting fields.

Participants will:

·       Develop and update their knowledge and confidence of genomics and applications of AI

·       Engage with scientists involved in leading edge research

·       Use authentic contexts for the effective delivery of specification content found at KS4 and KS5

·       Update knowledge of the careers available in AI genomics and related fields

·       Apply pedagogical strategies to teach students about AI and genomics in an inspirational and engaging way

·       Practice and apply practical investigations or simulations that can demonstrate real-world research techniques

The course will take place at the beautiful Wellcome Genome Campus which has fantastic residential facilities. The Campus is a centre of world leading institutes and organisations in genomics and computational biology. There will be ample time for participants to network with other teachers in their field and exchange ideas on how to incorporate genomics and AI into their classroom teaching.

By the end of the course, teachers will leave with a strong understanding of how to incorporate genomics and AI into their teaching, and how to inspire their students to engage with these exciting technologies. They will be equipped with practical skills, resources and knowledge that can be applied immediately in their classroom, and they will be well positioned to prepare their students for this rapidly evolving field of science. We invite all GCSE, BTEC, A level and T level science teachers to join us for this exciting and informative course on genomics and AI.

Join us and take the first step in preparing your students for the future.

Course Details:

Date: 8-9 June 2023

Hi Alison,

Really really sorry not to have seen (or been told as Cambs hub lead) about this event earlier than today. It looks amazing!
