Help with Teachers' Standards

By Elizabeth Hooper posted 08-10-2021 13:03

Now student and Early Career teachers are a few weeks into the new academic year it is time for them to start thinking about how they might develop their skills and knowledge so that they can meet the Teachers' Standards.

Earlier posts by Chris Catto and Sarah Longshaw give plenty of suggestions about where to find suitable classroom teaching science resources to help new teachers deliver lessons in the primary and secondary phase respectively, which can help meet the criteria teacher standard 3, demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge, and teacher standard 4 to plan and teach well structured lessons.  However, what resources are available to help meet the other standards?

STEM Learning have collated resources from a variety of organisations and publishers to help novice teachers learn more about the theory behind the standards and how to achieve them.  These resources provide inspirational ideas, evidence-based best practice, suitable educational research articles to read, and practical tips and guidance.

Resources for primary teachers can be found here.
Resources for secondary science teachers can be found here.

Finally, if new teachers (and their mentors) are looking for further advice for their first term in school and the Teachers' Standards they are welcome to join the STEM Learning Bites twilight webinar session with Pat Moore, the PGCE Science course leader at Sheffield Hallam University, on Thurs 14th Oct at 4pm. Pat will be giving top tips on how to survive the first school term and highlighting what ITT students and ECTs should expect from their school in terms of support.  Further details about this webinar can be found here.

Join the discussion about Teachers' Standards in the Early Careers Club, Primary STEM & 11-19 Science.
