Mars Day 2022 (14 March) and Mars Week 2022 (14-20 March) are just around the corner!

For Mars Week a series of live streamed lectures are now available for bookings. These online talks will be delivered by researchers in universities across the UK working on cutting edge space research and are aimed at secondary students. The 8 lectures will cover:

  • Asteroids, do look up! - join two asteroid experts as they discuss the chance of an asteroid impact, why they are super interesting to scientists
  • Exploring Mars with 150,000 Earthlings - join Queen's University Belfast's Meg Schwamb to learn how to get involved with scientific efforts to understand the Martian north pole
  • Dust on Mars - hear from MSSL's Catherine Regan to hear how martian dust storms can take over the whole planet
  • How the aurora lights up space - join Lancaster University's Dr Maria Walach for a tour of the northern lights of the solar system
  • How to put a human on Mars - join Imperial College London's Simon Foster to hear what it takes on the human body to put a person on Mars
  • Where to test Martian drills on Earth? - University of Glasgow engineer Dr Kevin Worrall tells us about their adventures in the Antarctic and beyond to test out drills for Mars
  • Searching for life on Mars: preparation for future Mars missions - join the NHM's Sara Motaghian to hear how we will be searching for life on Mars
  • Identifying potential evidence of life on Mars - join the Open University's Nisha Ramkisson to hear how astrobiologists simulate conditions on other planets in the past
