AMSP launches new online maths magazine

The AMSP has launched a new monthly web-magazine for high-attaining Year 12 A level Mathematics students. SUMS (Steps to University for Mathematical Students) aims to encourage and support applications to university maths courses.

SUMS has a focus on raising aspirations, particularly for female students who often do not consider applying to study maths, especially if a university admissions test, such as STEP, is required. It includes interviews with maths graduates about their careers; information about the application process; interviews with university students and tutors; and some mathematics problems and puzzles. There are contributions from a wide range of institutions, many of which encourage students to take an admissions test, and the magazine highlights the benefits of starting to prepare for these early in Year 12.
