Tell us how we can improve our teacher newsletters & win a Community goodie bag!

As the latest academic year draws to a close, we need you to tell us how we can help you!

Our teacher newsletters are sent to hundreds of thousands of teachers and technicians every month. We know your time is precious, so we want to ensure that they're as useful as possible when they land in your inbox. Have we got the balance right? Do you need more links to resources to use in the classroom? More details on how you can get hold of one of our volunteer STEM Ambassadors to inspire young people in the classroom? Do you find topical blogs particularly useful? Is there anything we're missing which would really help your teaching practice?

Now's your chance to help shape a key element of STEM Learning's communications - and everyone who responds will be entered into a draw to receive a STEM Community goody bag! Please comment below - thank you 😊

As a manufacturing company , i would like the newsletter to the teachers to show what companies are available to help with industry visits in the area . This would then reach a lot more teachers . You could do a spotlight on a company a month maybe to show what they do and what they can offer , as I've recently been involved in STEMFEST it was apparent that sometimes the smaller companies do have a lot to offer , but schools do not know they are there to help .

I am a teacher from Indonesia, I hope that this STEM Learning can be multi-language and often displays the work of students in the area where the STEM center is located, so that it can inspire For those of us who live in other parts of the continent.... thanks in advance

Ways to improve the newsletter:
Subject of the email: "Subject: STEM Weekly Consolidated Digest for Friday" doesn't really explain what it is.  Perhaps call it: "STEM Newsletter" or "STEM News" or "Weekly STEM update"

Add comedic elements and puns. Yes, I know they're always awful, but a lot of people can find newsletters frightfully dull, and some humour might help.

Make it fortnightly if there's not enough news.

Keep in mind that a lot of people receive the email at school and don't see the images you embed in the email. All it says on mine at the top of the email is "Community Noticeboard" > "Blogs".  So it's a bit confusing what the email actually is.

Include elements for new teachers or direct to "resource of the week" in the newsletter... I just feel like when I browse those links, nothing grabs me, so that's something to change.  How can we bring stem into school drama productions?  Stem into sports day?  So many possibilities.

I didn't know that there was a newsletter until this blog appeared in my daily digest. I've checked my profile and it says that smart newsletters is switched on.

My suggestion therefore would be to have a link to newsletter archives. I would also hope that newsletters highlight key events in advance, along with relevant links/resources to help with any planning (or even how the events were celebrated / marked the previous year).

I agree that schools need support in these financial constrained times...... Once a term I produce a list of resources(free)/links to where there are funding routes to be had and send to my subject leaders. The feedback is very very positive and many have used the free resources and gained funding for projects in their schools. Many do not have the time to trawl through websites etc so this is very helpful for them. Perhaps you could produce a list which you share for all phases..primary/sec/special etc.

The newsletters are great! Lots of great ideas, however with the present lack of funds in schools, I’d really like more links to free resources and links to how you can get funding in order to get expensive but amazing companies into schools as a lot of schools can’t afford them!

I’d also like some articles/help in getting more STEM ambassadors on the East Coast, we’re a deprived area and there are a lot of STEM ambassadors in York, but they won’t come as far as places like Scarborough. One kind STEM ambassador volunteered on a course I was on, but if there is any way to persuade more that would be brilliant. In my opinion STEM ambassadors are vital to show children the different STEM careers and in a deprived area that’s even more important. Thanks
