Discussion of the week (Secondary): Favourite chemistry demos

What's your favourite Chemistry Demo? is the question asked by @Rob May... Now, time to come clean, for those of you who haven't checked out my bio I am indeed a former chemistry teacher, so I should declare a bias on this one but its been such a good conversation starter I couldn't not give it the discussion of the week award.

There have been some great contributions from members listing their favourite chemistry demos and I've been reminiscing on my time in the classroom and the faces of students when something spectacular goes off at the front of the lab. From 'Cannon fire' to The genie in a bottle', 'group 1 metals in chlorine' to 'Silanes' (one of my personal favourites see image below) there is huge variety of demos which can be employed in the chemistry lab in order to help cement learning, engage students in a lesson or simply for awe and wonder.

Thanks to @Joelle Nicholson, @Louis Turner, @Philip Sheldon, @Stephen Burrowes, @Sarah Longshaw, @Melanie Hobbs for all your suggestions and a great conversation.

If you have any suggestions for awesome demonstrations for chemistry you can join the conversation in the 11-19 science group by clicking here
