Activities and inspiration around World Environment Day

The 5th June is World Environment Day, realising this has fallen during half term for most people, is there anything you are planning in the upcoming half term to raise awareness of human impact on the environment?

I've been out and about to do some exploring.

Activity 1: Beach plastics. Microplastics have been in the news quite a lot of late I thought it would be interesting to see how much plastic I could find (aware that this is NOT micro plastics but I don't have a magnifying glass with me!). I roughly marked out a 1m square and counted how many pieces of plastic I could find… in my plot I found 27 pieces of smooth plastic indicating it had been in the ocean for a while because the edges had been smoothed off my the sea. I also found rather a few pieces of sea glass which would make an awesome mosaic but left those for the local crafters!

Activity 2: Planting trees! The grounds team here have been out planting new trees to celebrate Environment Day. It was great to get stuck in and give them a hand digging and planting!

What are you doing this coming half term to raise awareness of human impact on the environment? Join in the discussion in the Careers, Clubs & Cross-Curricular group!
