Elstree students demonstrate the power of hands-on learning as UK teams excel at the 2025 VEX Robotics World Championship.
Elstree, Hertfordshire — 4th June 2025 — A robotics team from Haberdashers’ Boys’ School has been awarded the coveted Excellence Award at the VEX Robotics World Championship 2025 in Dallas, Texas. This is the highest honour in the World’s Largest Robotics Competition and a landmark moment for UK-based STEM education.
The Excellence Award is presented to the team that best exemplifies engineering design excellence, coding proficiency, innovation and collaboration. The Haberdashers’ team competed against students from more than 40 countries, demonstrating that British engineering talent is thriving—and competitive on the global stage.
Importantly, this is not an isolated achievement. Multiple UK teams across age groups secured awards in their divisions, showcasing not only technical skill and innovation under pressure but also the value of sustained STEM learning in schools.
“We’re immensely proud of the UK teams’ success at this year’s VEX Robotics World Championship. Their achievements showcase the strength of hands-on STEM education and the remarkable talent being developed in schools across the UK.”
— Melissa Butterworth, UK Regional Support Manager, REC Foundation
As the UK continues to address a STEM skills shortage, these successes highlight how hands-on programmes like VEX Robotics can cultivate practical problem-solving, resilience, and teamwork—alongside core technical knowledge.
The new 2025–26 VEX Robotics season is now open to UK schools, with challenges available for KS2 through KS5. Schools are encouraged to explore how participation in this STEM competition can transform learners’ confidence, creativity, and career readiness.
