I am a retired Design Engineer & Project Manager. I studied Aeronautical Engineering at Queen Mary Collage London graduating in 1972.
My first job was with Max Fordham and Partners a Building Services Consultancy. I worked on a number of project ranging from a Youth Centre in Newport to a new town in Iran. My role was to produce designs for the Mechanical and Electrical systems for the buildings. I was also the Resident Engineer (M&E) for Alexandra Road a large housing development for the London Borough of Camden and the Cambridge Music School. I became a partner in 1975.
I moved to Cornwall in 1976 and worked at Mount Wellington Tin mine as a geological sampler. I was offered the post of assistant to the Mine Engineer, sadly the mine closed.
I moved to English China Clays initially working 4 shifts in the clay pits. I was seconded to the Process Equipment Development office for a number of months and led a group of apprentices looking at all the processes and producing an overall flow sheet from pit to finished products. I then moved to the New Works Design office where I worked on a number of projects producing structural and designs for New Plant. Ranging from drying plant to a slurry plant.
I then moved into the Technical Office and was responsible for the design of the major pipelines and pumping systems and developed an interest in the rheology of slurries.
