Learning from each other in the Post-16 Remote National Science Network

By Alison Ackroyd posted 22-11-2022 15:02

Communities of practice have historically been important for driving improvement from the City of London guilds like the Scientific Instrument Makers to which I belong to our modern-day equivalents of the professional bodies. You are part of the remarkable online STEM Community.

Our Post 16 Remote National Science Network is a community that shares good practice - we learn from each other. This drives our collective knowledge forward hopefully with a dash of creativity. In our first meeting this year we looked at recent resources such as the easy to use lessons on the recent Nobel Prizes and events for Climate Change Week

We also discussed how you can maximise the benefits of examiners’ reports. The audience was a mix of A level, BTEC and T level teachers. We had input from John Dewis at OCR, and Elise Reece at AQA and myself on vocational science followed by a discussion in the breakout rooms.

All communities thrive on feedback loops and we were able to give our ideas to STEM Learning on what CPD we would find valuable for our sector. Thanks to @Catherine Witter for visiting our session!

We are meeting again on 7th December 2022 4-5 pm. We have guests talking about the Amgen Biotech Experience and Lab change. There will also be time to reflect on how we can showcase the way in which we enrich the STEM offer for our students. Grab a cuppa, there is no cost to this other than your time and enthusiasm.
