Are you passionate about outdoor learning and STEM education? Would you like to help shape exciting new resources that bring nature to life for your students?

The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust (WWT) at Steart Marshes is teaming up with STEM Learning to develop a suite of engaging educational materials for secondary aged students and we want you to be part of it!

What’s happening?

We’re hosting a co-creation workshop at WWT Steart Marshes, where local educators will collaborate with STEM Learning to design five brand-new sets of resources aligned to curriculum statements for science, maths and geography. These will support meaningful, hands-on learning experiences during school visits to the marshes, and beyond.

What will the resources include?

Pre-visit activities to spark curiosity before students arrive

On-site tasks such as species identification, data collection, and self-guided exploration

Post-visit follow-up tasks to deepen learning back in the classroom

Whether self-led or volunteer-supported, these resources will be tailored to real classroom needs, with your input at the heart of their creation.

Who are we looking for?

We’re inviting up to eight teachers or educators, specialising in either secondary science, maths or geography to take part in this exciting workshop. Your ideas, insights, and classroom experience will directly shape the final resources.

Teachers attending may also get the opportunity to pilot the final resources during summer 2026.

Key dates and how to get involved

To register your interest, please contact Nicole Turnbull (Nicole.Turnbull@wwt.org.uk). Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Up to two teachers per school are welcome to attend.

The workshop will take place at WWT Steart Marshes, Steart, Somerset, TA5 2PU on Thursday 8th January between 9am and 3pm.

Participating teachers will receive up to £250 each – up to £200 for a full day’s contribution and up to £50 for travel. Please note attendees must arrange their own transport to and from the WWT Steart Marshes site.
