Stories around GCSE results are currently dominating the news in the run-up to the new academic year - and Schools Week has published a handy at-a-glance article analysing 8 key trends from England's results data - including evidence that a geographical attainment gap is widening.

We've got a whole range of intensive, residential CPD courses running at our HQ in York to help you teach subjects at GCSE level - with subsidies available. Here's a quick selection of upcoming courses:

- KS3 Science for Non-scientists

- Reaching for Grade 9 in Science

- Effective GCSE practical work: Physics

- Effective GCSE practical work: Chemistry

- Effective GCSE practical work: Biology

- Maximising progress for learners up to Grade 5

Several news outlets including the Guardian have reported on the popularity of computing - with more students choosing to study computing than PE for the first time. Computer Weekly has also reported an increase in the number of girls taking the subject at GCSE.

Teach Computing have a range of courses for you if you're looking to develop or refresh your computing knowledge - and particularly topical is the Computer Science Accelerator, which focuses on teaching the subject up to GCSE. Check out all the pathways here.

And finally...many congratulations to 92-year-old Derek Skipper, who passed his GCSE maths exam with flying colours! Derek says he sat the exam as it was "a bit of fun, and better than watching television" - and he achieved a grade 5, after last sitting a maths exam in 1946.
