Next week (wb Mon 10th Feb) is National Apprenticeship week – and why not recommend a career in the NHS? A 2 minute video that will be easy to include into lessons – short sound bites from young apprentices in the NHS which I think will appeal to many students is here: https://www.stepintothenhs.nhs.uk/careers/videos/apprenticeships
Show your young people the roles that other like them have taken up (if you can’t see it, you can’t be it!) here – this is text based information so would provide an opportunity for paired or popcorn reading in your lesson https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/career-planning/study-and-training/nhs-apprenticeships/apprenticeship-real-life-stories
Then you may wish to share a summary of what NHS apprenticeships are available - see here https://www.stepintothenhs.nhs.uk/apprenticeships or here https://www.healthcareers.nhs.uk/career-planning/study-and-training/nhs-apprenticeships
Don’t forget – the stepintothenhs resources are available for primary and secondary (both KS3 and KS4). I highly recommend the stepintotheNHS KS3 competition, which could be set as a homework task. There’s also a great 8 minute video promoting STEM skills in NHS careers which you may want to include in your lessons or an assembly at some point https://www.stepintothenhs.nhs.uk/careers/videos/stem-skills It’s easily split into 4 different sections so you can play this over a number of lessons if that works better for you.
Great resources – do have a look if you have time!
