The DfE have just launched their latest Teaching Internship Programme to facilitate interest from current undergraduates in teaching STEM subjects that are in-demand in schools.  This is open to all undergraduate students interested in teaching a STEM subject, including part time and mature students, so as invested STEM teachers and advocators yourselves, it would be great if you could help spread the word!

Internship subjects are:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Computing
  • Modern Foreign Languages (north-east schools only)
The programme details:
    • Interns are paid £300 per week
    • Undergraduates apply via participating schools – links to schools can be found on the GiT website
    • Will last three weeks, during June and July
    • Support after their internship to pursue their interest in teaching, including from the school and a dedicated one-to-one adviser from Get Into Teaching

What experience will they gain:

The opportunity to experience a range of activities to help get a feel for school life including:

      • Classroom experience, which could include: assisting with lessons and providing subject support to pupils
      • Shadowing experienced teachers and observing lessons, followed by a chance to jointly plan and deliver lessons
      • One-to-one guidance from outstanding classroom teachers
      • Opportunities to network with qualified subject specialists
We all know a good STEM education comes from excellent STEM teachers so please help spread the word and direct interested parties to the link to the Internship page on Get into Teaching
